The Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1895 under the leadership of Rev. Dan Travies. Other Ministers who served as Pastors from 1895 to 1904 were: Rev. Billy Williams, Rev. Refel, Rev. Harris Lee and Rev. Johnnie Logan.
Reverend W. Walker was called in 1904, he resigned in 1919. He proved himself to be a Gospel Minister. Many was converted and added to the church. Rev. John Lyons was ordained under Rev. Walker's Ministry and became Pastor from 1919 to 1922, he resigned. We then called Rev. J.Cobbs in 1922, he was with us for a short while, under his leadership, the church had been demolished by a storm. When the church was remodeled, the Senior Choir, Senior Mission and the B.T.U.(Baptist Training Union) was organized. He was called to his reward in 1929 while still our Pastor. We then called Rev. J.J. Jackson in 1929, he was with us for only a short while. He was also called to his reward in 1937 while still our Pastor. We called, Rev. Jacobs in 1937, he resigned after a short while and left the Gulf Coast in 1938. Rev. A.E. Sims came to us next in 1938. Under his administration, the church was torn down, rebuilt and dedicated. Rev. Frank Johnson was ordained and many was added to the church. As it was with each of the pastors, already named, he resigned. We then called Rev. S. Hale, after a short while, he resigned. Then Rev. E.G. Dickey was called in 1942, he proved himself to be a prepared minister. Many of the things he preached and taught is still being carried out. His remembrance will forever live among us. He left in 1947. In the same year, Rev. Dr. Alexander Warren came to us and much was accomplished during his ministry. Choir rooms was built and a pool was installed in the church. Many members was converted, baptized, restored and a Laymen's League was organized. Time will not permit us to write all the acts of Dr. A. Warren while he was with us. He was a dedicated and concerned pastor and cared about the welfare of this church and families. He served as pastor until 1959. During the early existence of this church's mission. It was here at the Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, the local Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress was first organized. It meets every fifth Sunday at different churches in the Gulf Coast and Shiloh District Association. Our Annual Mission Day Program was organized from a vision from one of our fore-parents Mrs. May Lyons and God and is still in existence.
After Dr. R.A. Warren left, Rev. Dr. Jesse L. Trotter came to us in 1959. Under his leadership, the church has grown in every department. A junior choir was re-organized, Gospel Choir, and a Junior Church was also organized conducting its own services. Sunshine choir has been organized, Auxiliaries strengthened and improved. Many was added to the church by Baptism and Restoration. There were shortcomings that we can not rectify, none, as it relates to the size and appearance of our church, but we still overcome it by trusting God's grace, sacrificing our time, money, services, talents and good will toward the Edification and Rectification of God's House. Under Rev. Trotter's leadership, a new church was built, which we are now serving in today, a beautiful sanctuary. We are still praying for God's guidance as a new day dawn upon us also during Rev. Trotter's administration, the decision of the Lord, integration and desegregation of the Long Beach public schools in the state of Mississippi. In 1977 Rev. Trotter resigned as Pastor. We were without a leader. There were much prayer and supplication to Almighty God for guidance and to send us a leader.
In 1978, we called Rev. William J. Harper and under his leadership the church has grown both spiritual and financial. New members have been added to the church, many has been baptized and some restored. We've installed new ladies and men's lounge in the front of the church, purchased new P.A. system, church steeple, baby grand piano, new pulpit covering, drapes for the pool, and had the pulpit furniture remodeled. We also have brick veneered the church. Rev. Harper is a dedicated minister and willing to help anyone whenever the need arise.
We are now under the God sent leadership of Pastor Robert L. Landor who started on January 7, 2001. Thus far under his guidance we have ordained four deacons; Dea. Joseph McNary, Dea. Ronnie Moody, Dea. Arthur Barnes, Dea. Jim Dedeaux and Dea. Maurice Warren-who on August 7, 2011 excepted his calling into the ministry. A Jail and Prison Ministry was established by appointing Sis. Lula Dedeaux as Overseer in 2004. Under Pastor Landor a Young Adult Choir, later called the Inspirational Choir was organized by Sis. Betty Edwards. Also a praise dance team was established, the Director/Matrons are Sis. Eilene Moody and Sis. Lula Dedeaux. In 2010, a praise and worship team was organized by Sis. Loveeta Warren. Also in January 2013 the church web ministry was created and organized by Sis. Dorothy Spencer. Pastor Landor has also donated his van to the church. Through his teachings of the gospel we have increase membership and dedicated members who are continuing to trust in the Lord in spirit. He is faithful and obedient to doing God's will; truly he is opening the word of God to us in such a way like never before and we pray that God will bless our Church family in an almighty and awesome way that we will acknowledge him (GOD) and him (GOD) alone. As Pastor Landor has always said, "Let us trust in the Lord and continue to do his work and his will so that He will be glorified."
Let us continue to "Build a better moral and spiritual character for a future life, by maintaining moral and spiritual values in the confused world".
